Day 2 IELTS Listening Practice - Section 1

Topic: Registering for a Library Membership

Librarian: Good afternoon. Central City Library. How can I help?

Student: Good afternoon. I would like to join the library, but I am not sure what information you need.

Librarian: That is fine. I can register you over the phone. First, are you a student or a working professional?

Student: I am a student. I am studying computer science at North College.

Librarian: Thank you. Students can get a free membership for one year. After that, you can renew it online.

Student: Great. What can I borrow with the membership?

Librarian: You can borrow up to six books and two DVDs at the same time.

Student: How long can I keep the books?

Librarian: Books are issued for twenty-one days. DVDs are issued for seven days.

Student: Okay. Are there any late fees?

Librarian: Yes. For books, the late fee is thirty pence per day. For DVDs, it is one pound per day.

Student: I see. What time does the library close on weekdays?

Librarian: From Monday to Friday, we close at eight thirty in the evening. On Saturday, we close at five.

Student: Is the library open on Sunday?

Librarian: No, it is closed on Sundays.

Student: Understood. Do you have a quiet study area?

Librarian: Yes. The quiet study area is on the second floor, next to the reference section.

Student: Do I need to book a desk?

Librarian: Usually, no. But for the computer room, you should book in advance.

Student: How many computers are available?

Librarian: We have eighteen computers in the computer room.

Student: Okay. Can I register now?

Librarian: Yes. May I have your full name, please?

Student: My name is Omar Siddiqui.

Librarian: Could you spell your surname?

Student: Yes. S I double D I Q U I.

Librarian: Thank you. And your date of birth?

Student: The twelfth of November, two thousand and one.

Librarian: Thank you. What is your phone number?

Student: It is zero seven nine three two, six zero four, one one eight.

Librarian: Let me check that. Zero seven nine three two, six zero four, one one eight.

Student: Yes, that is right.

Librarian: Finally, what is your email address?

Student: It is omar dot study at mail dot com.

Librarian: Thank you. Your membership number is L 4 7 2 9.

Student: L 4 7 2 9. Thank you.

Librarian: You are welcome. You can collect your library card tomorrow after two o'clock.
