Day 12 IELTS Listening Practice - Section 1

Topic: Job Enquiry

Manager: Good morning. Riverside Cafe. This is Emma speaking.

Applicant: Hello. I am calling about the part-time job advertised online.

Manager: Of course. We had two jobs advertised, a kitchen assistant and a cafe assistant.

Applicant: I was interested in the kitchen assistant job.

Manager: That one has already been filled, but the cafe assistant job is still available.

Applicant: Cafe assistant is fine. What would the work involve?

Manager: Serving customers, taking orders, and helping to clear tables.

Applicant: When would the job start?

Manager: We first hoped someone could start on the eighteenth of June, but that is too soon now. The confirmed start date is the twentieth of June.

Applicant: The twentieth of June. That works for me.

Manager: The usual working days are Friday and Saturday.

Applicant: Both days every week?

Manager: Yes, Friday and Saturday, from ten in the morning until four in the afternoon.

Applicant: What is the hourly pay?

Manager: During training it is ten pounds per hour, but after training the hourly pay is twelve pounds.

Applicant: So the normal pay is twelve pounds per hour.

Manager: Correct. The training is three hours, usually before the first shift.

Applicant: Okay, three hours.

Manager: Would you like to come for an interview?

Applicant: Yes, please. What times are available?

Manager: I had a time at quarter past two, but someone has just taken it. I can offer quarter to three.

Applicant: Quarter to three, so 2:45.

Manager: Yes, 2:45 tomorrow afternoon.

Applicant: That is fine.

Manager: Can I take your full name?

Applicant: My name is Bilal Hussain.

Manager: Could you spell your surname?

Applicant: Hussain. H U S S A I N.

Manager: Thank you. And your phone number?

Applicant: It is zero seven nine six four, three one eight, seven seven four.

Manager: Let me repeat that: 07964 318 774.

Applicant: Yes, that is right.

Manager: Please bring photo ID and a certificate from your last course or school.

Applicant: Photo ID and a certificate. Got it.

Manager: Your application reference is J five zero six three.

Applicant: J5063?

Manager: Yes, J5063. Please show that at reception when you arrive.

Applicant: I will. Thank you.
